2017 makes the 24th year of the Big Lake Classic Fishing Tournament in Saugatuck Michigan. Fishing Teams from Indiana, Illinois and Michigan come to Saugatuck in early August for this annual event. This Tournament is the last Tournament on Lake Michigan each year so many people throughout the region do watch for the results of this tournament as each year the Team with the most points will be on the cover of the Tournament Trail Magazine the following year, as well as wins over $20,000 in prizes along with Bragging rights for the next season.

The Saugatuck tournament continues to grow each year as the Fishing Teams come to Saugatuck for the relaxing atmosphere, food from all of the great Restaurants in town and the local watering spots in town.

The Salmon in the classroom benefits from the event and the Tournament committee supports 5 school classes to date, 2 in Saugatuck, 1 in Hamilton, 1 in Holland and 1 in Byron Center. The Tournament committee along with the Saugatuck Charter Boat Association take all of the Students from the Saugatuck 6th Grade Classes fishing in May each year as a part of the Learning for the Salmon in the Classroom project. The fish caught that day are then cleaned and cooked for lunch before students return to the classroom on this day.
